There is no other wine than the Lambrusco Mantovano that promotes the convivial pleasure”.

Shakespeare will forgive us, that in any case is related to Mantua, where Romeo hid awaiting to meet again his beloved Juliet.

Today this Red is appreciated all over the world, ambassador of the mantuan traditions and cuisine.

In the Lambrusco Mantovano’s goblet there are two thousand years of history, culture, art, and music.

Doc since 1987 it was born in two areas of the province of Mantua, in the south eastern part of the Lombardy Region: in “Viadanese Sabbionetano” and in “Oltre Po Mantovano”.

Here in the Oltre Po Mantovano (between Quistello... and so on) the grapes are grown that give us the rosé and the most prestigious red wines of Lambrusco Mantovano.

The origins of the history of Lambrusco are very old, even writers and poets of the Caesarean Era wrote about it. Virgilio praises in his “Quinta Bucolica” the passion for the farming of vitis labrusca, Catone in “De Agri Coltura” and Marzio Terenzio Varrone in “De Re Rustica” reveal their knowledge about its farming. And Plinio il Grande in “Naturalis Historia” explains that the “vitis vinifera, which leaves, like the ones of the Lambruscan vine, turn into a bloody red colour before falling down”.

In a Treaty of 1305, the bolognese Pietro de’ Crescenzi incited to take in consideration the upbringing of the lambruscan vine. It’s thanks to the benedictine monks, who knew how to delight themselves, if the farming of vine variety is developed.

During the 1800s it was considered the most refined wine.

If we think about it, he was born from a wild vine: “Labrum” in Latin means edge of the fields and “ruscum” wild flower, but also “labo” that is taking, and “cuscus” that bite the taste, classic of fresh wine with a contained acidity and intense and pleasant tannins. Violet foam that smells like wood, ruby red that colours the tongue, and fruity scent that intoxicate the sense of smell.

It’s the wine that accompany the rise of the Gonzaga,as the court painter Andrea Mantegna conveys to us. It is the Lambrusco Mantovano that takes part at the birth of the mantuan cuisine, one of the most appreciated of the world.

It is also passionate wine: in “Rigoletto”, which the composer Giuseppe Verdi makes us listen, foam in the goblet of the dark Duke of Mantua. The Duke makes a toast and sips it awaiting to possess Gilda taken by deceit and that, as we will find out, she is the daughter of the court jester Rigoletto. It’s always the wine that take up the voice of the Duke when in the tavern of Sparafucile sings “Bella figlia dell’amore” ready to a new conquest.

Verdi will close tragically his work bot only after making us savour the passion for life, for love, and for banquets.

Red and Rosé are two Doc Mantuan Lambruschi obtained thank to the wine-making of grapes named Grappello and Salamino farmed in the district of Quistello: the must and the marc staying sill interchange colour. The primary fermentation takes place with yeasts selected at controlled temperatures, the following take on of the foam takes place with refermentation in autoclave following the Charmat method and is controlled in the cellar.

The grapevines grow alongside the shores of the river Secchia and are farmed with the struggle of low environmental impact to guarantee the authenticity of a typical and abundant wine like 'Lambrusco Mantovano'.

The 'Lambrusco Mantovanoì has a red rubin color tending towards a variable intensity with the ageing. The winey scent is made by berries, currant, and blackberry, but also of violet. The violet foam is exuberant like his nature. Soft for the taste, slightly sour, but dry and tasty, its strenght is 10,5 grades.

As we want to see it, Lambrusco Mantovano is a wine that conquers people.
